Studio portrait of 12084 Private (Pte) Charles Joseph Walshe, A Section, 9th Field Ambulance from South Melbourne. A 27 year old elocutionist prior to enlisting on 23 September 1915, he embarked for overseas from Sydney on 11 May 1916 aboard HMAT Argyllshire. After further training in England, he was attached to the 34th Battalion in France in November 1916 and was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 12 October 1917. Pte Walshe is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.
