Description
Outdoors portrait of 1534 Private (Pte) Percy James Williams, 16th Battalion from Donnybrook, Western Australia. A 25 year old mill hand prior to enlisting on 20 November 1914, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd Reinforcements from Fremantle, Western Australia on 22 February 1915 aboard HMAT Itonus. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action and evacuated to the Hospital Ship Gascon where he died of his wounds on 14 May 1915. Pte Williams was buried at sea off Gallipoli and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
