Studio portrait of 2752 Driver Joseph Loraine Mattinson, 3rd Brigade Divisional Ammunition Column from Windsor, Victoria. A 25 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 2 September 1914, he embarked for overseas with No 4 Section from Sydney aboard HMAT Katuna (A13) on 19 September 1914. After serving at Gallipoli, he returned to Egypt where he was presented with the Royal Humane Society Medal by General Chauvel on parade on 11 March 1916. Later that month, he proceeded to France where he transferred to the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade in January 1917. He received medical treatment in England for influenza in May 1918 and was then sent on 1914 leave arriving back in Australia on 15 December 1918.
