Portrait of 1363 Private (Pte) Angus Robert McLean, 3rd Battalion from Yea, Victoria. A 25 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 29 August 1914, he embarked for overseas service with G Company from Sydney, NSW aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. Following further training in Egypt, he was with the 3rd Battalion when they landed at Gallipoli in the early morning of 25 April 1915. Pte McLean was killed in action at Gallipoli on 17 July 1915 and is buried in the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. His brother, 1689 Pte Norman Leslie McLean was killed in action in Belgium on 29 May 1917. [See image H06368.]
