Description
Three ships officers aboard Fairmile Motor Launch ML 426 enjoy a quiet interlude between assignments. Identified personnel are Sub Lieutenant Peter Ailwood (1); Sub Lieutenant Dudley Ross (2); Lieutenant (Lt) R C Pockley (3). Commanded by Lt Pockley, ML 426 conducted operations along the northeastern coast of New Guinea from April until November 1944. From the start of August 1944, when command was handed to Lt H C Eyers, she was one of eight Fairmiles formed into the New Guinea Motor Launch Flotilla based at Mios Woendi (east of Biak Island) as an anti-submarine force and was involved in the strafing of a number of Japanese positions at Wafordori and Korim Bays.
