Description
RAF Station Binbrook. Informal portrait of 411227 Flying Officer Ronald Leslie Neal, 460 Squadron, RAAF, of Greenthorpe, NSW. FO Neal and the other members of the crew posed in their spare time for Australian Official War Artist Stella Bowen who painted 'Bomber Crew'. Before this painting was completed the crew had been posted missing and this photograph was used to assist Stella Bowen to complete it. Eventually it was learned that FO Neal had been killed on 28 April 1944 while on operation over Germany.
