Description
The grave of 443 Gunner (Gnr) Edward Leslie Rabbitts, 1st Field Artillery Brigade. A veterinary surgeon from Rose Bay, NSW prior to enlistment, Gnr Rabbits embarked with the 3rd Battery from Sydney on HMAT Argyllshire on 18 October 1914. Whilst serving at Gallipoli he contracted enteric fever and was transferred to Malta where, on 25 July 1915 he died, aged 25, and was buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. His younger brother 37449 Gnr Stanley Kelvin Rabbitts also served with the Australian Field Artillery. Note that the inscription on his headstone incorrectly lists his rank as Private.
