Description
A German propaganda poster, 'England's needs', which purports to be a declaration by Winston Churchill, who was Minister for Munitions in the British government from 1917. It reads, 'I have had to diminish by hundreds and thousands of tons the supply of shells which the munition factories are ready to turn out, and which the artillery now require for use, but which we cannot send, owing to lack of shipping'. The poster shows the alleged number and positions of British ships torpedoed by the Germans, exclusive of all vessels sunk by mines, since 1 February 1917, during 'a 12 months uninterrupted U-boat campaign'.
