Description

Collection relating to the First World War service and Second World War recruitment activities of Commander Fred (Frederick) Arlington-Burke, Royal Navy, s/n J 4730. Collection includes material relating to the recruitment drives for 1939-45 war; broadcasts made and talks given by Arlington-Burke on his 1914-18 experiences; letters from Prime Minister Lyons and other politicians; correspondence with ex-service colleagues; a brief record of service; a diary of the Gallipoli campaign; an English translation of Turkish orders to cross the Suez canal in 1915 and a log of HMS Swiftsure.

Wallet 1 of 3 consists of the letters and papers relating to the recruitment drives for 1939-45 war; broadcasts made and talks given by Arlington-Burke on his 1914-18 experiences; letters from Prime Minister Lyons and other politicians; correspondence with ex-service colleagues; an English translation of Turkish orders to cross the Suez canal in 1915.

Wallet 2 of 3 consists of the three (3) hand written diaries (vols 1, 2 & 4) relating to operations of the HMS Swiftsure in the Gallipoli and Aegean Sea areas for 1915 & 1916; naval signal for 8 January 1915; a copy of the Peninsular Press No 88 for Monday 1 November 1915; a brief record of service.

Wallet 3 of 3 consists of the one (1) hand written diary (vol 3) relating to operations of the HMS Swiftsure in the Gallipoli and Aegean Sea areas for 1915 & 1916.
