Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of Captain Gabriel John Meade-Waldo-Van, British Army, prisoner of war, Manchuria, 1945.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of both handwritten and typed transcripts of a diary maintained by Captain Meade-Waldo-Van while travelling from Formosa, through Japan and Korea, to Mukden in Manchuria between February and April 1945 while a prisoner of war to the Japanese. The daily entries give a graphic description of the conditions endured by the prisoners during the journey.
History / Summary
The transcript was given by Captain Meade-Waldo-Van to SX9569 Captain Harry Lovat Fraser, an Australian prisoner of the Japanese who with Meade-Waldo-Van endured the journey from Formosa to Mukden.
