Matsuo, Keiu (Lieutenant)
Description
Collection relating to Second World War service of Lieutenant Keiu Matsuo, Imperial Japanese Navy. Collection consists of handwritten illustrated poems (in Japanese with English translations) written by Mrs Matsue Matsuo commemorating the death of her son, Lieutenant Keiu Matsuo, in the midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour on 31 May 1942. There is also a poem written by Mr O Da, who lived in Kumamoto, Japan, near Mrs Matsuo, and five photographs of Mrs Matsuo and others taken before her death in 1980.
