Conflict First World War, 1914-1918
Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of 136 Lance Corporal Percival Charles William Langford, 4 Light Horse. Collection consists of a bound typescript diary, covering the period 17 October 1914 to 4 November 1915. Topics covered include: embarkation at Melbourne, the voyage to Egypt, the campaign at Gallipoli, mention of C E W Bean, being wounded and subsequent hospitalisation in Malta, return to Gallipoli. A photograph is also included. Added to the collection in September 2014 were three original handwritten diaries (one without cover) written by Trooper Percival Charles William Langford during 1914-1915. Also added was a single page letter dated 12 January 1915, written by F Tate of the Education Office, Melbourne to Langford wishing him well. Langford was a teacher at the University High School prior to enlistment. The State Library of Victoria holds a collection of letters relating to the University High School (which includes letters from Langford) at MS 11240.
