Skewes, Glenleigh Bertie William
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of VX61290 Private (Pte) Glenleigh Bertie William Skewes, including his time as a prisoner of war of the Japanese. The collection consists of a bound typed transcription (122 pages) of an original diary, with introductory notes, detailing the departure of "F Force" from Ban Pong, forced march north to Songkurai, casualties amongst the prisoners, particularly from cholera, mention of POWs who died, and relates in detail the deprivation endured during April-Dec 1943 until returned to Kanchanburi hospital and eventually Changi POW camp. The diary of Pte Skewes has been web published by members of his family and is available for access on the internet site
