Letters written by Second Lieutenant Smith to his parents from the time of his arrival at Officer Training Unit Scheyville until the end of his first six weeks with 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment in Vietnam (December 1969). He mentions training, his work as a junior second lieutenant, problems with the Army Aviation Corps and his first impressions of Vietnam.
