Watson, Stanley Holm (Lieutenant Colonel, b.1887 - d.1985)
Collection relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Holm Watson, 2nd Division Signal Company, Australian Imperial Forces, Gallipoli, 1915.
Collection consists of the 'will' page in a First World War paybook belonging to Watson. On the back of the page is, in very faded purple pencil handwriting, is an entry reading:
"Captain S.H. Watson was the last officer I sent aboard at North Beach on the evacuation from Anzac"
"20/12/15" "C.A. Littler Captain. Commandant."
This note was written on the night of 19th/20th December 1915, after Watson, with the remainder of Littler's party evacuated North Beach to the SS Abbasiah, bound for Mudros, following the total evacuation of the Allied presence at Gallipoli.
In addition to the original is a copy of the note, photographed under ultraviolet light in order to make the note more legible.
