Collection relating to service of 911 Company Sergeant Major George Samuel Feist, 52 Battalion and 12 Battalion, Gallipoli and France, 1915-1916. Collection includes copies of a letter sent to family in England. Copy made 1929 by Australia House, London, in response to request made by the Australian War Memorial. History / Summary

Biographical note: Sergeant Major, 12th Bn, AIF. From AWM93 0012/0011/0724. 52 Battalion, 3-4 September 1916, killed in action during an attack upon Mouquet Farm (Pozieres). Wheat agent of Mount Kokeby, Western Australia, born Southsea, Hampshire, England, educated at Council School, Worth, Sussex, England, was a member of the London Metropolitan Police; came to Australia at 21 years, enlisted in the AIF 10 September 1914, posted to 12 Battalion; took part in the Landing at Anzac 25 April 1915, was wounded, returned again to the Peninsula and stayed until evacuation, transferred to 52 Battalion early 1916 in Egypt. Age at time of death 28 years.
