Collection relating to the Second World War service of O-57 (United States) General (5 Star) (USA), Field Marshal (Philippine Army) Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander Allied Forces in the South West Pacific Area, Australia and Papua, 1942.
Collection consists of one hand-written note addressed to Commander, Allied Land Forces, and Commander-in-Chief, Australian Military Forces General Sir Thomas Blamey, with a typed transcript for distribution. The letter states:
"To Gen Blamey,
My hearty congratulations to all ranks concerned at captuing Kokoda. These fine troops must feel a pride and satisfaction at this splendid accomplishment which I fully share."
The letter was written 4 days before MacArthur moved the advanced echelon of General Headquarters to Port Moresby.
