Glasson, Alfred Bertram (Lieutenant, b.1882 - d.1915)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 671 Lieutenant Alfred Bertram Glasson, 8th Infantry Battalion, Gallipoli, 1915.
Wallet 1 of 1 consists of a notebook, a piece of commemorative ephemera, a newspaper clipping, and six photographs. The notebook was used by Glasson at Gallipoli to record members of platoons and sections, and record casualties against the names. Additionally, the notebook contains a four of hearts Bicycle playing card interleaved within the pages. Both the notebook and the playing contain a puncture hole produced by a bullet. The hole was allegedly sustained in the same engagement in which Glasson was killed. The photographs in the collection include a photograph of Glasson in Egypt, two photographs of his grave, taken in 1915 and c. 1920, a photograph of Captain Ebeling, C Company, 8th Battalion. Glasson helped tend Indian troops at Ismailia, Egypt in January 1915, and there is a photograph of seriously wounded Indian soldier being lifted into an ambulance in the collection.
