Lawrance, Stanley Norman, DSO (Captain, b.1881 - d.1929)
Collection relating to the service of Captain Stanley Norman Lawrance, DSO, 9 Battalion, Australia, Gallipoli, 1915-1916. Collection contains five notebooks, containing little information; two newspaper clippings, a handwritten note, and one personal diary . Diary entries pertain chiefly to events on board the SS Seang Bee, February to March, 1915.
Biographical note: Captain Stanley Norman Lawrance, DSO, 9 Battalion, AIF. Pharmacist of Ipswich, Qld, and Five Dock, NSW, born London, England, 13 December 1881, appointed 2 Lieutenant in the AIF on 16 December 1914, and posted to the 2nd reinforcements of the 9th Battalion, promoted Lieutenant on 1 September 1915, Captain on 12 March 1916, held rank of temporary Major from 23 December 1917 to 9 January 1918, took part in the Landing at Anzac, was wounded on four occasions - twice at Anzac, at Pozieres on 23 July 1916, and again in France on 27 March 1918 (shell shocked); appointment terminated 23 November 1918; died 28 May 1929.
