Collection relating to First World War civilian internee Henry Jennett, Trial Bay Internment Camp, 1918.

Wallet 1 of 1 - contains a printed address book, map and list of camp organisations [in German language] for Holdsworthy Internment Camp (Eastern compound) and a map of Trial Bay Internment Camp. Collection also includes two untitled descriptive poems [partly in German and partly in English, author unknown].

History / Summary

Prior to the First World War, Heinrich Jacobsen was the manager of a rubber plantation in Sumatra. He was in Australia on business at the outbreak of the war, and being a German national, was interned at the Trial Bay Internment Camp. During his internment, he taught classes at the camp. After the war, he moved to the United States of America and legally changed his name to Henry Jennett. He worked as a chemist in the plastics industry until his death in February 1950.
