Description

Collection relating to service of 589 Private Daniel Bartholomew Creedon, 9 Battalion, Gallipoli, 1915-1916. Collection consists of a handwritten copy of Creedon's diary. plus a typed transcript and two photographs. Creedon's diary covers his capture at Gallipoli on 28 June 1915 during an attack on Knife Edge Ridge. Later entries describe conditions as a prisoner of war in Turkish camps and hospitals, including military hospitals at Malteppe, Tack Kitchlas, Khangeri and Bilemedik. Private Creedon died while still a prisoner, 27 February 1917

History / Summary

The handwritten copy of the diary was made by 588 Lance Corporal Frederick William Neal, a friend of Private Creedon. The transcript was made by Neal's son, Raymond E Neal.
