Description
Papers of Coastwatcher Arthur Evans relating to the rescue of Lieutenant John Kennedy of the United States Navy after his boat was wrecked in the Blackett Strait in 1943. Arthur Evans located the crew and arranged for their rescue. Items in the collection include a logbook with coded entries, newspaper cuttings and letters. The rescue became more widely known after Kennedy's election to President of the United States.
