O'Brien, Charles Brian (Major, b.1912 - d.1990)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX53190 Major Charles Brian O'Brien, New Guinea Force Provost Company and Headquarters British Commonwealth Base, British Commonwealth Occupying Force. The collection consists of material gathered during the repatriation of Japanese prisoners of war, and war crime trials carried out in Japan.
Wallet 1:
a. An AMF notebook from November 1945, containing drawings, comments, and names of some of the former Japanese senior soldiers (later prisoners) from the Morotai POW camp, with pencil and watercolour sketches, and calligraphy drawn with ink and brush to which English translations have been added.
b. A handwritten list of ration entitlements and shortfall in same, compiled to accompany a complaint regarding the loss of rations. It written by General Masao Baba on behalf of Japanese prisoners and handed to Major O'Brien in February 1946.
c. A receipt for Japanese prisoners received from New Guinea Force Provost Company, 1944.
Wallet 2:
A Provost Court charge sheet from July 1950 accusing a soldier of possessing and trafficking narcotics; plus copies of reports and statements in support of the charge.
Wallet 3: A folder of bound copies of the British Commonwealth Forces 'Police Gazette'. Copies covering July 1946 to June 1948 but are incomplete.
