Munro, Gertrude Evelyn (Sister, b.? - d.1918)
Collection relating to the service of Sister Gertrude Evelyn Munro, Australian Army Nursing Service, India, Salonika, 1917-1918. Collection consists of two letters written by Sister Munro to her family, and one letter of condolence sent to her mother in 1918, by an unidentified Lieutenant Colonel of the RAMC, who had been Sister Munro's commanding officer.
Biographical note: Sister Gertrude Evelyn Munro, Australian Army Nursing Service. Died of sickness 10 October 1918. Age 36. Daughter of Mr. A. B. and Mrs. E. P. Munro, of 5 Gillies St., Alfredton, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Born Alfredton, Ballarat; educated at Queen's College, Ballarat; joined the AIF on 22 August 1916; died at Salonika of pneumonia and malaria, 10 October 1918, aged 36.
