Collection relating to the service of Commander William Henry Farrington Warren, HMAS Parramatta, Royal Australian Navy. Collection consists of typed extracts from a letter written by Commander Warren to his brother, during World War I.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Commander William Farrington Warren DSO, HMAS "Parramatta", Royal Australian Navy, who on 13 April 1918, accidentally drowned in Brindisi Harbour, Italy. Age 40. Son of the late Rev John Maturin Warren and Margaret Burnett Warren, of Bawdrip, Bridgwater. Other details concerning him are: born Logie Elphinstone, Pitcaple, Scotland, 19 October 1877; Sub-Lieutenant 1 December 1908; Lieutenant, 1 June 1909; acting Lieutenant-Commander, 1 January 1915; Lieutenant-Commander, 1 December 1915; acting Commander, 28 August 1916; Commander 1 April 1917. Appointed to HMAS Parramatta 17 July 1912. From June 1917 until his death he was senior officer in command of the RAN destroyer flotilla.
