Description
LETTER WRITTEN AFTER EVACUATION FROM NEW BRITAIN DESCRIBES JAPANESE AIR RAIDS AND BEACH LANDINGS OVER RABAUL AND PRAED POINT, THE INLAND RETREAT, CONSTANT HARASSMENT BY JAPANESE, HELP FROM NATIVES. DESCRIBES MASSACRE AT TOL. PRAISES THE DEFENCE, PARTICULARLY OF THE NEW GUINEA VOLUNTEER RIFLES. ALSO INCLUDES RECOLLECTIONS FROM ENLISTMENT TO DISCHARGE, AND A JAPANESE SURRENDER NOTICE DATED 23 JANUARY 1942.
