History / Summary

The breast star of the Iron Cross was awarded only once during the First World War, to General Field-Marshal von Hindenberg, after the Battle of Amiens-Arras in March 1918 and is still in the possession of the Hindenberg family. The star in the Memorial's collection is an original un-issued example. This medal forms part of a collection assembled by the Memorial in the 1920s for display.
