History / Summary

Instituted in 1850, the Order of Albrecht was originally awarded to 'all those who render useful service to the state, or who distinguish themselves through civil merit, science, art, etc., who have earned a claim to Our recognition.' In 1866 the Order was extended to include military personnel who had performed meritorious deeds in the field. To indicate this a pair of crossed swords was added to the badge. There were six classes of the Order and two medals. This medal forms part of a collection assembled by the Memorial in the 1920s for display.
