Saxony Military Order of St Henry Silver Medal
Saxony Military Order of St Henry Silver Medal. Unnamed as issued. Obverse: The bust of Friedrich August facing right with the inscription 'FRIEDRICH AUGUST KOENIG V. SACHSEN' around the edge. Reverse: In the centre ' VERDIENST UM DAS VATERLAND' on three lines (For service to the fatherland) surrounded by a laurel wreath with crossed flags and crossed cannon at the base. Fitted with a loose ring suspender and a piece of 35 mm light blue ribbon with a 5 mm yellow stripe down each edge.
Awarded in gold and silver to soldiers up to the rank of sergeant major for bravery in the face of the enemy. The gold medal was the highest gallantry award issued by Saxony during the First World War. This medal forms part of a collection assembled by the Memorial in the 1920s for display.
