Baden Voluntary War Assistance Cross
Description
Baden Voluntary War Assistance Cross. A bronze gilt cross pattée. Obverse: '1914' '1916' on the horizontal arms; a crown on the upper arm; the shield of Baden on the lower arm and a Geneva Cross in the centre. Reverse: in the centre the letter 'F' (Friedrich) with a crown above. The cross is fitted with a loose oval ring suspender and a piece of 33 mm ribbon which has a yellow centre, 9 mm red side stripes and thin white edges.
History / Summary
The Voluntary War Assistance Cross was awarded for voluntary work with the sick and wounded. When awarded for service in a combat area an oak leaf wreath was placed between the arms of the cross. This medal forms part of a collection assembled by the Memorial in the 1920s for display.
