History / Summary

The Military Merit Medal was created in 1850 and was intended to be awarded without regard to rank. This medal is the third version, which was awarded in the First World War. The design of the medal was the same as for earlier versions, but the suspension was different, with a smaller ring and mount. It is unknown how many of these were awarded, but the number may not have been great. The ribbon should be 38 mm wide. This medal forms part of a collection assembled by the Memorial in the 1920s for display.
