Description

Brown compressed fibre suitcase with two locking brass clasps and a central locating clasp at front. Lid is secured by three brass hinges at the rear. Body and edges are bound and studded with extra strips of fibre board. There are two painted scenes on the lid. One depicts a Japanese woman in a blue kimono, the other is a mountain scene, possibly Mount Fuji. White capital letters on the lid read '16254 ROBERTSON L.K. R.A.A.F.'

History / Summary

Associated with 16254 Sergeant (Sgt) Llewellyn Kendrick Robertson, RAAF who used this case during his time with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. After service in the Second World War, he volunteered for service with BCOF, where he served with 481 Squadron from 28 March to 19 November 1947, 111 Fighter Control Unit from 19 November 1947 to 15 August 1948, 77 Squadron (Mustangs) from 15 August 1948 to 1 December 1950 (spending a month in Korea in November 1950), and 491 Squadron from 1 December 1950 to 2 February 1951. Robertson returned to Australia on 5 February 1951.
