Description

Studio portrait of 6752 Private (Pte) Cryalin Vivian Goulding (incorrectly described as Golding on the Honour Board), 8th Battalion, of North Sydney, NSW. A plumber in civilian life, aged 36, Pte Goulding enlisted on 24 July 1916 and was killed in action in France on 29 June 1918. This portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War. Two relatives also served with him during the war and both were killed in action. His nephew, Lieutenant (Lt) Charles Percy Farrier, 10th Battalion, was killed in action at Gallipoli on 9 May 1915. A cousin, 3308 Pte Edgar Roy Wilson, 4th Battalion, was killed in action in France on 16 August 1916.
