Studio portrait of 3900 Private (Pte) Walter Allan Negus, 17th Battalion, of Kogarah, NSW. A junior salesman prior to his enlistment on 1 November 1915, he was killed in action at Pozieres, France, on 26 July 1916 aged 18 years. He had previous service with the cadets. This portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage Honour Board made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War.
