Studio portrait of 3038 Lance Corporal (LCpl) William Ernest Buckland, 4th Battalion, of St. Peter's NSW. An accountant, LCpl Buckland enlisted on 6 September 1915 as a member of the 7th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion. He was subsequently taken on strength with the 4th Battalion. On 9 March 1916 he was promoted to Lance Corporal. On 29 July 1916 he died of wounds at Pozieres, France. This portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage Honour Board made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War.
