Studio portrait of 4578 Private (Pte) Joseph Hood Anglian Reid, 2nd Battalion, of Newtown, NSW. Pte Reid enlisted on 10 September 1915 and was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 22 July 1916. Born at sea, he was named both after Joseph Hood, Captain and also his ship the S.S. Anglian. Pte Reid's brother, Sergeant W A Reid, also served in the AIF with the 56th Battalion. This portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage Honour Board made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War.
