Description

Studio portrait of 4362 Private (Pte) William Richard Bloomfield, 20th Battalion, of Marrickville, NSW. Pte Bloomfield enlisted on 9 November 1915 and died of wounds in France on 7 February 1917. This portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage Honour Board made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War. Pte Bloomfield was employed as an ironmonger at Anthony Hordern prior to his enlistment. (His cousin 1625 Pte Harry Payne, 17th Battalion, served in the AIF and also died of wounds in France on 15 April 1916).
