Description

Netherlands War Remembrance Cross with two clasps, "KRIJG TER ZEE 1940-1945" and "JAVAZEE 1941-1942". The medal is bronze, cross shaped with a central portrait of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands surrounded by a laurel and the wording "VOOR KRIJCSVERRICHTINGEN". The reverse is plain. It is mounted on an orange and green coloured ribbon.

History / Summary

A general service medal awarded to Van Beurden who served with the Royal Netherlands Naval Reserve from 6 September 1939 until 1954. From March 1942 till August 1945 he was a prisoner of the Japanese, working on the Burma-Thailand railway. At the end of the war, Van Beurden was repatriated to the Netherlands via Australia. He emigrated to Australia with his family in 1950.
