Description
Portrait of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) John Kendall, Assistant Director Veterinary Services, Anzac Mounted Division, from Shepparton, Victoria. A 32 year old Veterinary Surgeon prior to being appointed a Captain in the AIF on 26 August 1914, he embarked for overseas with the Divisional Ammunition Column from Melbourne on 20 October 1914 aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9). While serving in the Middle East, he was promoted Major on 5 December 1916 and Lieutenant Colonel on 1 May 1918 and was awarded an OBE on 13 June 1919. Lt Col Kendall arrived back in Australia on 6 November 1919.
