Description
The battlefield around the debris covered Thames dugout (centre). The difficult terrain was made worse by the shellfire which churned up the ground and the almost continuous rain which had fallen since the commencement of the operations in August 1917. Note the duckboard tracks which were laid in all directions over this area to make communication with the frontline possible. This is the first image in a four part panorama. See E01159P for the combined image.
