Description
A German Panzerlafette captured in a commanding position near Stirling Castle, in the Ypres sector, in Belgium, during the advance of the 1st Division on 20 September 1917. Of the eight tanks put out of action in the vicinity, the majority were, it is believed, disabled by the fire of this gun. One of these tanks, a Mk IV Female, is in the background. The Panzerlafette (later called a Fahrpanzer) was a mobile armoured pillbox armed with a 5.7cm SK L/25 quick firing gun. It weighed 2900kg and was capable of 25-30 rounds per minute. The cupola was typically moved into position on narrow gauge rails.
