Wootten, Miles (Private, b.1972)
Collection relating to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) service of 331276 Private Miles Wootten, Transport Squadron, 3 Brigade Administrative Support Battalion, Rwanda, 1994-1995.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a scrapbook compiled by Miles and his family on his service (and the Australian contribution to) UNAMIR from 1994 to 1995. The scrapbook contains a map of Rwanda, letters, and dozens of newspaper and magazine clippings related to Wootten and the Australian Medical Support Force in Rwanda. The news clippings document the farewell of the contingent, their arrival in Rwanda, the withdrawal of the French contingent from UNAMIR, the return of Tutsi refugees, the aid given to Rwandans, the violence confronted by members of the Australian contingent, the difficulties of the operational environment, the support given by the contingent (and Wootten) to a Rwandan orphanage, and Christmas in Rwanda. The scrapbook also includes news articles and correspondence between Wootten's parents and Senator Margaret Reynolds regarding the taxing of the danger allowance granted to the Australians on operational deployment in Rwanda.
