Australia Service Medal: Sub Lieutenant R H Middleton, RAN
Description
Australia Service Medal. Impressed around edge with recipient's details.
History / Summary
S6271 Ronald Herbert Middleton enlisted in the RAN at Port Sydney in 1941. He served as a steward in shore establishments in Sydney, Brisbane, Bribie Island, Townsville, Darwin and Canberra. In 1944-1945 he served in the minesweepers HMAS Huon and Goonabee. Although his personal records give his substantive rank as Able Seaman steward, photographic evidence suggests that he may have been a Petty Officer. He is thought to have taken part in clandestine intelligence work in the Pacific islands, operating out of Darwin and Townsville.
