Description
A sergeant of the Indonesian contingent to the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) sits atop an American built Cadillac Gage V-150 armoured car outside the perimeter of the headquarters of the Australian Force Communications Unit (FCU) contingent to the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), located near Pochentong Airport in Phnom Penh. Accompanying the Indonesian contingent, this V-150 mounts two machine guns in its T-50 model turret, is painted in traditional white with large 'UN' markings, flying the blue and white UN flag and displaying the registration 'UNTAC 8103'. A protective barrier of sandbags and drums has been laid against the perimeter fence. FCU headquarters was known to Cambodians as 'Pteah Australii' and was under the armed protection of the Indonesian Contingent, which, along with the Ghanaian Contingent, was deployed in a security capacity to the Phnom Penh Special Zone (PPSZ) for the duration of the electoral period, from October 1992 onwards.
