Description

A pair of Russian made BTR-60 PB armoured personnel carriers (APCs) sit in the pavement close to the Australian Force Communications Unit (FCU) headquarters in Phnom Penh. This eight wheeled, single turret amphibious APC is armed with a 14.5 mm KPV-T machine gun and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun and has seen widespread use since the model was first introduced in 1965. The APC in the background appears to have a flat tyre, a common fault with these vehicles. It is unclear whether these vehicles belong to State of Cambodia (SOC) forces, or have been brought in as part of the UNTAC operation, (which is unlikely as they lack the UN markings and paint scheme).
