Description

A Russian-built Mi-26 'Halo' (MiL) helicopter used by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) is refuelled by a UN bowser (far left) at Battambang air field prior to a flight back to Phnom Penh. The group sitting on the runway amongst their baggage are the first contingent of Indonesian troops, some accompanied by family members, returning home after their tour of duty. They have been brought to the Mi-26 in the white UN transit van sitting behind them. Further equipment is being loaded from a UN truck into the back of the Mi-26 (which has a load carrying capacity of 20,000 kilograms) through its capacious cargo doors. For ease of access, the helicopter's tailskid has been retracted.
