Description

A young Khmer boy totes a plastic toy AKM as he poses in front of a wall covered in graffiti at the Turtle Wat (or temple) in Battambang province. The main image behind him is of the Hindu god Ganesha (who is venerated as destroyer of obstacles and god of education and wisdom), under which has been scratched the word 'UN'. Many of the original Khmer Rouge of the early 1970s were recruited at such a young age that they knew nothing but conflict.
