Description
The plains of Cambodia stretch out towards the mountains of the border with Thailand in this view from a meditation cave located in a hill near the road from Battambang to Pailin. In the left foreground, unidentified troops work on and around a bunker while a tank - possibly a Chinese T-59 - sits on the plain behind them. Used for centuries as a place of rest and contemplation by the nearby Turtle Wat Buddhist community, the meditation cave became a dumping ground for victims of the autogenocidal Khmer Rouge regime, who were brought here and killed with a blow to the back of their head, before being pushed through a hole in the roof of the cave.
