Description
The plains of Cambodia stretch out towards the mountains of the border with Thailand in this view from a meditation cave located in a hill near the road from Battambang to Pailin. In the left foreground, a village nestles among the trees. Used for centuries as a place of rest and contemplation by the nearby Turtle Wat Buddhist community, the meditation cave became a dumping ground for victims of the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime. Victims were brought here and killed with a blow to the back of their head, before being pushed through a hole in the roof of the cave.
