Description

A pile of tumbled sandstone blocks form the basis for a small Buddhist prayer and offering site in the overgrown twelfth century temple complex of Banteay Chhmar (literally 'Temple of the Cat') built by King Jayavarman VII in the far north of Banteay Meanchey Province. Due to its isolation the overgrown, nine square kilometre site has become an increasingly favoured target for looters and thus remains high on the World Monuments Watch list of the world's 100 most endangered archaeological sites.
